Here’s a thing that happened to me: I walked into an independent bookstore to inquire about hosting an event related to my new book. I was, after admitting to be an independent author, shut down pretty quickly. Some indie bookstores, it turns out, have no time for indie authors. So that’s cool.
Launched a book yesterday; cleaning my kitchen today
If you happen to keep a list of my daily activities at your side at all times, you’ll note that the above headline was written yesterday. That’s as far as I got. I did clean the kitchen, but it took the entire day. The entire day. It’s not that it was that messy (I mean, it was, but no room can be that messy), it was just all I had in me.
Knowing When Done is Done
I was cooking the other day, whipping up a mean lemon basil sauce for some pasta and sautéed vegetables when I had a realization. Inger, the character in Swedish Lessons most oft portrayed as completely insane, taught me how to make sauces from scratch. In fact, before I went to Sweden, while I knew how to follow recipes, I had no idea how to cook. Now, cooking is legitimately my favorite hobby. I’m passionate about it.
