It never once occurred to me that I wouldn’t have a professional career. When women I know drop out of the workforce, whether it’s to have children or for other reasons, I’m always surprised. Not because I don’t think everyone should have that choice and do what’s best for their families, but because it’s something that I have never considered an option for myself; not as a little girl, not while investing decades and thousands of dollars in my education, and not now, when I’m married and of so-called “child-bearing age.” Never even thought about it.
Do Good Now
I was pretty impressed with myself upon learning my marriage resulted in me becoming a distant relative of Pat Sajak. I mean, it’s not that my husband knows Cousin Patty, but he did once hear his voice on his great aunt’s answering machine.
What I should have been more impressed with, however*, was the fact that I married into the family of David Plawecki.
It’s always today when you’re self-employed
Adages about not putting things off until tomorrow are as numerous as they are universal. It seems to be part of the human condition to come up with reasons to not do things at the present moment. Because we all live busy lives, there is often a reason that we’re just too over-booked/sleep-deprived/frazzled to do what we need to do today.
